Protected by OAuth. Short-lived tokens renew automatically, nothing is copied into config files, and you can revoke access from your account.

Is OAuth more secure than an API key?

Yes. OAuth issues short-lived tokens that renew automatically — nothing is pasted into config files, and you can revoke access anytime from your account page.

Can I still use an API key?

Yes. Headless agents, CI pipelines, mcp-remote and clients without OAuth support can use a free API key. See the API key page.

Does the ChatGPT free plan work?

Custom connectors on ChatGPT require a paid plan (Plus or above). Claude, Codex, Cursor and VS Code don't have this restriction.

Which clients are verified?

OAuth is verified end-to-end on Claude and ChatGPT. One-click install is available for Cursor and VS Code, with more client verifications rolling out.
